First of all, how cool is it that Friday the 13th landed in October this year! It’s no secret that I have a serious love affair with fall. I adore everything about this time of year; the traditions that I’ve cherished year after year with family, pumpkin spice e’rythang (at this point, my blood type is pumpkin spice), the cooler temperatures (yes, even in San Diego, the weather does change, I promise), and last but certainly not least, the fashion. Today on the blog, I’m reviewing a few staple pieces for fall that are under $20!
SHEIN HIGH WAISTED SUSPENDER DRESS | SHEIN CREW NECK STRIPED LONG SLEEVE | RUST COLORED THIGH HIGH SOCKS | TOMS BOOTIES (similar) | A NEW DAY FLOPPY HAT
I’ll preface these reviews by mentioning that the only item listed that exceeds $20 are the Toms Booties, however these are my favorite of all time. Like any other shoe in the Toms family, these are all about comfort. The ones I own are slightly different in design, but as you can tell by the photos, they get plenty of use and have lasted me many years. The wedge amplifies the sexy factor of the booties, without compromising on comfort which is a win-win for me. Overall, worth the buy! It’s also worth noting the suede does get dirty easily, and tends to show more wear and tear than a leather alternative.
Next up, is this cute little suspender dress from Shein. The pieces I’ve purchased from this site have been hit or miss for me. In this case, we have a hit. This is on the lightweight side and should be worn more for aesthetic than functionality. It’s spandex and fit ‘n flare, which is indeed a very flattering combination. An interesting factor is that it is actually ‘one size fits all’ which normally has me running for the nearest exit. However, I decided to give it a try and am glad I did. The only downside I noticed, is that the straps were too long for me so I found them slipping off my shoulder from time to time. Not a huge deal breaker, and could easily be resolved with a quick stitch.
I’ve had my sights set for a while on a good floppy hat. The one from Target won me over, because it seemed to ‘flop’ in all the right places. It can be a challenge to find one of these hats that isn’t over the top, or too floppy. This one fit great and had cute tie detail on the side. Target really has been killin’ the game lately; there are tons of cute hats right now, like this, this, and this.
Is it really fall without thigh- high socks? I have way too many pairs of thigh-highs for a “San-Diegan” to claim, but there is something about them that elevates an outfit…even when it’s 80 degrees outside. I got these from Forever 21 years ago, and haven’t been able to find them since 🙁 I only recently started pairing them with booties (I usually wear them with knee high boots and leggings). I love the pop of color!
And finally, a classic staple for fall is a simple black and white striped long sleeve. This one has a more cropped-like fit, which I chose because it was less bulky when worn in layers. It’s so versatile and a must-have item that can easily transition from season to season.
Thanks for reading, friends! Happy October! What are some of your fave closet staples?
